A Case for Wellness

Improve your health, improve your life – Feel more energized, do more meaningful and productive work, and be more connected to those you love. Can improving your health really deliver on that statement? Absolutely. Your health is a key component to success in your personal and professional life. Let’s break it down this way… all of the systems in your body are connected. When one suffers, it eventually will affect the others, including your brain. As your health declines, your performance will start to follow. Think of your body as the source of power for your brain. Think of your biology as the hardware that runs the control center of your life. Your mind, your emotions, your intellect, your behaviors and actions…. That’s all the programming and software that the hardware is running. If the physical hardware is broken or impaired, the software, regardless of how good it is, won’t run properly. When your body is breaking down it’s likely to eventually lead to that dreaded blue screen, the one that stops all progress until the problem is fixed.

In my line of work, one of the first things I hear from high performers is “I don’t have time to prioritize my health.” With a background in supporting trial and IP attorneys for over 25 years, I really do understand why you feel that way. Your position in your organization depends on you being at the top of your game, leading with clarity, making hard calls and solving problems boldly. This leaves little time for anything else. High performance in your career can leave you struggling in your health and nutrition. Being a successful professional has its unique challenges, especially with energy and time. However, can you really afford to let the hardware that is running your life break down? The most successful corporations prioritize not only maintaining the hardware their professionals rely on but constantly investing time and resources to upgrade it. Ignoring it simply isn’t an option. The same is true with your body. You can’t afford not to prioritize not only maintaining your health, but also continuing to invest in improving it, if you want to continue to perform at a high level. This doesn’t mean you sit in meditation for hours and count calories all day. It means you are intentional with the time and resources you have. It means you learn to use multifunctional tools that address more than one need at a time to be efficient and effective.

The solution? The first step is to get a better understanding of what is happening in your brain and your body. From there you can identify the steps that need to be taken to reclaim your health and performance edge. Next you’ll need to uncover the barriers preventing you from implementing those nutrition and lifestyle changes. I can help you with those steps and then equip you with tools and resources designed to empower you to create space in your day to execute the changes you want to make without added stress and strain.
